Masha Terentieva, circus artist

Born into a family of artists in St. Petersburg, Russia, Masha Terentieva attended the Gymnastics School of Olympic Reserve at the age of four.

Upon graduating, she moved on to Acrobatic Rock-n-Roll, honing her artistic skills and participating in international competitions.

In 2000 she moved with her parents to Canada and spent 3 years on the road with Cirque Du Soleil’s show Alegria, where her father worked as an artist. While doing contortion and hula-hoops training she discovered her passion for circus.

Upon return to Toronto she continued her training at “Wonderful World of Circus,” learning aerials, handstands, acrobatics, and juggling, while at the same time attending Rosedale Heights School of the Arts, where she studied dance (jazz, modern, and ballet), drama, and visual arts.

In 2005 she was accepted to the National Circus School in Montreal and chose to specialize in aerial hoop. Upon graduating, Masha has started to working on various projects and is realizing her dream of living a life as a circus artist.

Masha is especially interested in the theatricality of circus, and has put a lot of emphasis on the presence of character in her number. She made it her motto to use movement as the tool of her expression, and to use it in the most original and precise manner. Her act is sensual in its simplicity and daring in its attitude.
